The AIDC Centre works with businesses and public sector organisations to help them make the most of the technologies of Automatic Identification and Data Capture (AIDC). These include techniques such as barcoding, 2D codes, RFID, smartcards, mobile communications and biometrics. The Centre has established a state of the art development and demonstration facility at its Head Office at the Digital Media Centre, in Barnsley.
The AIDC Centre is unique in its approach to delivering technological support to client companies. AIDC technology can be applied across a wide range of sectors and covers a wide range of individual technologies. The business has a clearly stated policy of delivering solutions and not technology. AIDC does not sell particular items of equipment and has no allegiance to any particular manufacturer or supplier. It is a not-for-profit-distribution company and is dedicated to providing impartial professional advice. It has a small core staff and is managed by a voluntary Board of representatives from commerce and industry.

They have a range of private and public sector clients and a large proportion of their work is made up from clients in the creative sector including Arts Council England, Yorkshire Forward, beam and Sheffield Galleries and Museums Trust.
They are actively involved in the arts and regeneration sector both as a business and individually, and have been instrumental in establishing Creative Barnsley, a new not for profit organisation seeking to support and network the creative sector in the borough.
